If you have recently been found guilty of DUI in Florida, one of a range of possible incurred penalties will be required attendance at a Florida DUI school. Attendance is not optional, and compliance is required by law. Completion of your required course gets you one step closer to regaining full license privileges and all of the freedoms a valid license allows.
If you have received a speeding ticket, you may be considering attending traffic school to reduce the fine and improve your driving record. Depending on a variety of circumstances, traffic school may or may not be required. Following being ticketed for speeding, or any other motor vehicle violation, attending traffic school may also help prevent an increase in your car insurance rates.
If required to attend DUI School due to a drinking and driving arrest and conviction, take care to select a reputable program. You will need to make sure the DUI School you select is a certified and fully licensed by the state of Florida.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, DUI schools operate within the private sector but are not for profit.
There are a large number of organizations offering a variety of in-person class schedules. For example, there are weekend programs available or you may prefer to attend night classes. You also may be eligible to enroll in an online program, providing optimum scheduling flexibility. Be sure to confirm that you are eligible to select an online DUI school option and that such a program is in full accordance with your particular requirements.
In order to be recognized by the state, DUI schools must provide the following services to their enrolled DUI offenders seeking to comply with both judicial and licensing requirements:
Education
Psychosocial Evaluation
Treatment Referral Services
Two levels of educational programs exist to satisfy attendees’ requirements; Level I and Level II. Level I meets requirements for first-time DUI offenders while Level II is required of repeat offenders.
Licensed Level I programs provide classroom instruction for a minimum of twelve hours while Level II programs provide classroom instruction for a minimum of twenty-one hours, with an average class size no greater than fifteen students.
While treatment referral services are provided through DUI School, no portion of the program is credited toward required treatment.
In Florida, there are several different types of traffic school courses:
Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education
This is a basic course, required of anyone applying for a drivers permit. If you have never been issued a drivers license from a US state, you must complete this course in order to obtain a license. Some courses offered by select county school boards may be substituted for this particular course.
Advanced Driver Improvement Courses
This course is required for traffic offenders whose licenses have been suspended for any number of reasons.
Basic Driver Improvement/Collision Avoidance Course
From running a red light, to passing a stopped school bus, several circumstances require the completion of Florida’s Basic Driver Improvement/Collision Avoidance Course
Several other traffic school programs exist through the state of Florida, including insurance discount classes and commercial vehicle training.

It’s great that these schools exist. However as an instructor it infuriates me when I see people driving in the most reckless manor with no regard for the general public
